Ingredients:
- 1ยฝ cups uncooked Japanese rice
- 250g shabu beef slices
- 1 brown onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp dashi powder
- 2 tbsp mirin
- 2 tbsp kikkoman soy sauce
- 1 tbsp white/brown sugar
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- Spring onion, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Steps:
- In a pan, add water, dashi, soy sauce, mirin, grated ginger, sugar, and sliced onions. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and let it cook for 7-10 minutes, until the onions soften and the flavors meld together.
- Add the beef slices to the pan, making sure they are fully submerged in the broth. Cook until the beef reaches your desired level of doneness, usually about 2-3 minutes.
- To serve, place a portion of steamed rice in a bowl, then ladle the beef and onion mixture over the top. Garnish with chopped spring onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
