Chinese Five Spice Chicken Wings

Chinese Five Spice Chicken Wings

The Lowdown:

Anyone remember these Chinese five spice chicken wings? I’m sure many of us have had a variation of this growing up, each recipe uniquely catered to the tastebuds of each family. It’s a simple dish but one that really brings you back to days of childhood and the taste of home. This one here is an easy baked version in the oven which also means lesser cleanup! ✌🏻

Notes: Go ahead and use your air fryer if you’ve got one. You’ll get a crisper bite! This recipe is very versatile too, you could have fun with flavours and come up with different variations - e.g. add honey for a honey-glazed wing or black pepper for a black pepper variation!

Ingredients

(Makes 15-20 wings)

500g chicken wings (approximately 15-20 wings)

1 tbsp light soy sauce

1 tsp oyster sauce

1 tsp five spice powder

1 tbsp shao xing wine

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp sesame oil

Steps:

  1. Wash chicken wings, pat dry and place in a large bowl.
  2. Add in all the other ingredients and mix well. Leave to marinate for 1 hour. It’ll taste even better when left to marinate overnight.
  3. Place on a grill rack and bake in the oven at 200°C for 9 mins. Get it even crispier in the air fryer!
  4. Place on a grill rack and bake in the oven at 200°C for 9 mins. Get it even crispier in the air fryer!
  5. Remove from the oven and enjoy!
