Ingredients

  • 1kg russet potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks
  • 1 bulb garlic
  • 125 grams unsalted butter
  • 150 ml milk
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 60 ml sour cream, optional
  • Parsley

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Potatoes
    • Peel 1kg of russet potatoes and cut them into large chunks.
    • Place the potatoes and one garlic bulb into a large pot.
    • Cover with cold water (about 1 inch above the potatoes) and season generously with salt.
  2. Cook the Potatoes
    • Bring the water to a boil over high heat.
    • Once boiling, reduce to medium heat and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
    • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
  3. Mash It Up
    • While the potatoes are still warm, begin mashing with a potato masher.
    • When partially mashed, add 125g unsalted butter, 150ml whole milk, and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
    • Continue mashing until the potatoes reach your desired smoothness. For an extra creamy finish, fold in 60ml sour cream if desired.
  4. Adjust Seasoning
    • Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt and pepper as needed.
  5. Serve and Garnish
    • Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish.
    • Top with extra butter, if you’re feeling indulgent, and garnish with chopped parsley for a fresh, vibrant finish.
